The 2nd Annual Polk County Suicide Awareness Walk takes place Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Pine Park in Balsam Lake. The inaugural event last September was a huge success as an estimated 500 people attended in support of mental health and suicide prevention awareness in Polk County. Together, we raised more than $30,000 in support of the Mental Health Task Force of Polk County.
The Polk County Suicide Awareness Walk features a 5K walk, survivor memorials, mental health resources, a program, entertainment and more. All proceeds raised benefit the Task Force of Polk County and our work to raise awareness for mental health and services in our community.
After her son Jordan died by suicide on August 19th, Tristan Divine decided to create a team in memory of Jordan and participated in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out of the Darkness Walk in September, 2015 at the Mall of America. She decided after that walk to keep the money they raised for suicide prevention in Jordan’s memory local. So Tristan, leading a group of volunteers, decided to start a walk in Polk County. Her goal is to help bring awareness to our own community and bring awareness into our schools and give the kids an outlet to encourage positive emotional health!
Mark you calendars, we look forward to another special day in Polk County.
