The Mental Health Task Force of Polk County is proud to offer comprehensive Mental Health First Aid training for both adults and youth. Our Director, Lisa Murphy, is a certified instructor dedicated to empowering our community with the skills and knowledge needed to support those facing mental health challenges.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Adult Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based program designed to teach participants how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial help, and guide individuals towards appropriate professional support. This course covers a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, and substance use disorders. By the end of the training, participants will be equipped to:

  • Identify common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and substance use disorders.
  • Understand how to interact with a person in crisis.
  • Connect individuals with appropriate professional help and community resources.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid is tailored for those who work with or care for young people, including parents, teachers, school staff, and youth workers. This program focuses on the unique mental health needs of youth aged 12-18 and provides participants with the tools to:

  • Recognize the early signs of mental health issues in adolescents.
  • Offer initial support in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
  • Understand the importance of early intervention and how to connect youth with ongoing support and resources.
